A little bit of luck

Would you rather be lucky than good? Well, if you are in the National Football League, you need a little bit of both. The Bears had both in this win over the Lions. We already went over how the Bears’ offense and defense both had some things that were okay and some things that need work. Well, there is no doubt that no matter how you look at it, they had luck on their side at the end of the game.

The Lions blew a 23-6 lead in the football game. The Bears were winning 27-23 late before the Lions tried to come up with a last-minute scoring drive of their own. Matthew Stafford made a perfect pass to D’Andre Swift on the goal line but he dropped it as he was catching it. He went to pivot before going into the endzone where he would have won the game for the Lions but he failed to complete the catch. It was a sure catch but then it wasn’t.  It was probably about as big of a break as the Bears could have asked for late in the game.

Swift is going to think about that play for a long time. If he catches that ball, all of the Lions’ late-game struggles are forgotten for at least a week. The Bears aren’t usually on the good side of those breaks but they were on this one. It was a heartbreaker for the Lions but a thrilling win for the Chicago Bears.

Hot. Don't put too much stock into week one or week two for the Bears. light

Next week, they come home to face off against the New York Football Giants. Hopefully, Mitch is able to play better before the fourth quarter, the defense comes back to normal, and luck remains on their side. It doesn’t matter how you get to 1-0 as long as you’re 1-0. Now, fix the issues and we are onto the Giants.
