Chicago Bears: 5 optimistic predictions for the 2020 season

3. A trio of stars burst onto the scene
James Daniels, Anthony Miller, and David Montgomery. If the Bears are going to play a significant role in the NFC, these three players are set to have breakout seasons. What’s so intriguing is that Miller and Montgomery, are the ones who’ve drawn some praise in training camp. There seems to be little to no hype around Daniels.
Miller started off the 2019 season with breakout expectations, however, he faltered, only to finish last season strong. The main focus for him will be figuring out a way to carry over his strong finish from 2019 into a strong start in 2020. Year three sometimes tends to be the year where many wide receivers find their groove and put it all together.
Montgomery, had a solid rookie season, despite averaging just 3.7 rushing yards per carry. Some may not believe in his ability to be a workhorse running back, however, the potential is definitely there. As a receiver in 2019, he had 25 receptions for 185 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per reception.
Daniels in the most intriguing of the three breakout candidates listed on this slide. He played a majority of the games at left guard during his rookie season in 2018. Last season, the Bears experimented by having him start at center. Halfway through the 2019 season, he was moved back to left guard, the same position he’ll play in 2020.
With a full offseason of being able to play just left guard under his belt, combined with two years of experience, Daniels can take the next step in 2020 and cement his spot as a long-term part of the Bears offensive line.
