The Mighty Quinn

You may remember the famous song by Manfred Mann, written by Bob Dylan, called The Mighty Quinn. The song is about a man named Quinn who turns chaos to rest, and despair into joy. Robert Quinn, however, is expected to have the exact opposite effect.

The Bears are hoping the recently signed free agent wreaks havoc and chaos and brings despair to opposing offensive lines. From a pass-rushing standpoint, Quinn is a significant upgrade over Leonard Floyd, who routinely failed to get to the quarterback during his time in Chicago. Those failures had a direct impact on Khalil Mack’s effectiveness, as offensive lines could double Mack without worrying about Floyd.

That is not the case with Quinn who had 11.5 sacks last year with Dallas. Consequently, you can expect fewer double teams on Mack as the offensive line must gameplan to stop two formidable pass rushers. This will likely put Mack into more one-on-ones which are frankly unfair to whomever he’s lined up against.

If Quinn can be the force the Bears believe he is, Mack will not only have a career day against the Lions but quite possibly a career season. Matthew Stafford might be in for a long afternoon in Detroit.
