Chicago Bears are still unsettled at kicker

As the famous New York Yankees catcher Yogi Berra once said, “it’s deja-vu all over again.” In recent years, few things have proven as reliable as the uncertainty around the Bears’ kicker. Year after year it feels like the Bears are having to answer questions about the position. Since releasing Robbie Gould, they have not adequately addressed the position.

This year appears to be no exception. While Eddy Pineiro was decent in his first season with the Bears, the team is hoping to see him improve on his 2019 season in which he outlasted nearly a dozen other options in training camp.

Pineiro’s 2020 training camp looked a lot different, as he was rarely seen. The team has indicated he has been dealing with a groin injury and has not kicked yet this preseason. The Bears have had enough mysterious groin injuries recently and Pineiro’s is trending in the same direction.

The Bears recently released and then signed Cairo (don’t call me Carlos) Santos to the practice squad. Now that the Bears have officially placed Pineiro on injured reserve to attend to his injury, it appears that Santos will get the start on Sunday.

In what is expected to be a close game (spread is currently around 3 points) it could all come down to a field goal attempt. Let’s just hope it’s not from 43 yards.
