5. Special Teams

P: Pat O’Donnell

K: Eddy Pineiro

LS: Patrick Scales

KR: Cordarrelle Patterson

PR: Tarik Cohen

The first concern on special teams has to be kicker. With Pineiro not necessarily being healthy (we’ll see later on this week) they could turn to Cairo Santos who they signed to the practice squad following roster cuts.

Almost like a quarterback controversy, the Bears could have a situation where Nagy must ride with the “hot hand;” or, in this case, foot.

Looking at the return men, there’s no surprise. It’s Patterson and Cohen. But, it’s also interesting that the Bears did not keep Artavis Pierce on the active roster, who is more of a pure running back than Nall, whom the Bears chose to keep instead.

A lot on this team will depend on Montgomery’s health. If he’s ready to go, great. If he’s not 100 percent, then other areas could suffer, starting with special teams. If Cohen or Patterson have to carry more of the load offensively, their effectiveness on special teams may get brought down a notch.

The most important thing of all is this: Bears football is just days away.
