Should the Chicago Bears add a future Hall of Fame running back to the mix?

With just under a week until the Chicago Bears kick off against the Detroit Lions in Week 1 of the much-anticipated 2020 NFL season, there are still plenty of moves to be made. The Bears continue to shape their roster, cutting guys here and there in effort to make it to their final roster limit.

One of the areas Chicago could look to add a veteran is at running back. Despite head coach Matt Nagy stating that he liked where the team was at with that group just days ago, most would think the Bears still need depth there.

David Montgomery is nursing a groin injury which might not take all that long to recover from. But, he could still miss Week1 and potentially Week 2. That means Cordarrelle Patterson and Tarik Cohen — and maybe Artavis Pierce or Ryan Nall — get some work. It’ll be a running back by committee approach until Montgomery returns.

Late this week, the Washington Football Team released an NFL legend, running back Adrian Peterson. While Washington moves forward with their younger backs, Peterson is ready for his next opportunity.

The Chicago Bears should take note that Peterson still wants to play.

Per multiple reports, Peterson has a strong desire to continue playing in the league. While it might make more sense for him to head to a contender (who says the Bears won’t surprise?), Peterson may not have a plethora of suitors awaiting him.

The Bears do need depth at running back. That’s a fact, whether or not the coaching staff sees it that way. But, should they make a run at their former division rival?

There are cases to be made either way, and objectivity may sway in one direction over the other. First, the positives of bringing him in.
