Coaching

Stan Bowman potentially saved his own little job by firing Joel Quenneville at the beginning of the 2018-19 season. This is a coach who has done everything there is to do for an NHL franchise and Bowman’s idea of paying him back was by firing him just a few weeks into the season. It makes sense that every coach has an expiration date but the timing of it makes Bowman look terrible. I

If you’re going to part ways with the greatest coach in team history and possibly of all time, you should do it a bit differently. They should have moved on before the season started because there is no way those few weeks taught them anything they didn’t already know. It makes it even worse that they replaced him with Jeremy Colliton. He has a chance to be a fine coach as he learns more but he isn’t it right now. The Hawks had to learn his system on the fly because of the timing of the Quenneville firing and that made it even worse.

Colliton isn’t the right guy for this job as he isn’t all that much older than Chicago’s best players that are well more accomplished. It was just a bad coaching decision all around for Bowman and he got to stick around because of it. Colliton should not be back and Bowman shouldn’t be the guy to hire his replacement. He needs to pay for the bad decision of firing Coach Q.
