Chicago Bears: 3 trades to consider with latest NFL injuries
By Ryan Heckman
Trade No. 2
Just days ago, the Los Angeles Chargers thought they had a potential NFL Defensive Player of the Year within their starting secondary. Unfortunately, starting safety Derwin James suffered a meniscus injury which will require surgery and now put him out around 6-8 months, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Fortunately, the Bears are actually fairly deep at safety and could offer a little help via trade. Chicago obviously has Eddie Jackson starting, and the job next to him is currently up for grabs between both Marqui Christian and Tashaun Gipson.
Behind those three, the Bears have Deon Bush, DeAndre Houston-Carson and Sherrick McManis — and that’s even after Jordan Lucas opted out. It isn’t too likely the Bears keep six safeties on the roster, therefore trading one before the season starts would be a smart move if it were possible.
Deon Bush is good enough to start on some teams, and he would offer tremendous depth and even potentially a starting candidate for Los Angeles. If Chicago could get a sixth rounder in return, for a guy who will probably leave via free agency in 2021, that’s a win.
