Chicago Cubs Rumors: 3 players to deal at trade deadline
The Chicago Cubs could look to be sellers at the trade deadline for many different reasons.
The Chicago Cubs got off to a red hot start when the 60-game 2020 season got underway. They were so good as they scored lots of runs and had dominant starting pitching. Well, it hasn’t been all that great lately and they look like a seriously flawed team right now. Their bullpen is terrible and all of their best hitters are ice cold at the wrong time. They are still very much in the race for the National League but they need to change fast.
They are over .500 but they are more games over .500 (18-13) then their run differential (+2) which is never a good sign of sustained success. It makes you wonder if Theo Epstein sees this as a team that isn’t capable of winning it all. They certainly can’t win it all with that bullpen or their bats this cold so you never know what Theo is thinking. If he is looking to trade off some of his pieces for future assets, you might really start to see some big names moved out.
This team was so good in 2015, 2016, and 2017 but they have underachieved since then. A lot of it has to do with bad pitching development, bad trades, and bad contracts given out to the wrong guys. Some of their core might suffer because of it but that is the business of baseball. This team might look a whole lot different in 2021 so you have to wonder if that process starts at this year’s trade deadline. These are the three position players that could make their way out sometime before Monday afternoon:
