Chicago Cubs: 3 trade deadline sellers to partner with
By Ryan Heckman
3. Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners have already been active selling before the deadline. With a record of 13-20 and being obvious movers this year, they likely are not done dealing just yet. Recently, they traded starting pitcher Taijuan Walker to the Toronto Blue Jays. Walker was arguably their best overall trade chip, but there are some relievers the Cubs should take a look at.
If the Mariners were willing to listen, the Cubs should check in on relief pitcher Anthony Misiewicz. The 25-year-old is in his first Major League season and is handling himself well thus far. In 11.1 innings pitched, Misiewicz has allowed 10 hits while striking out 15 and walking just three batters.
Misiewicz has a respectable ERA of 3.86 but an even better WHIP (1.11). He has also allowed just a single home run this year.
One other reliever the Cubs should check into is Yohan Ramirez, who has an even lower ERA of 3.27 in the same amount of innings pitched as Misiewicz. The plus side to Ramirez is the fact that he doesn’t allow a lot of hits (just five all year) and has even more strikeouts (17). His downside? He walks a lot of batters (11 this year).
Either one, though, would be welcomed additions to the Cubs’ pen.
