If ever there was a time to make a surprising, bold move, now is the time. With Karnisovas handling the decision-making, he might see a guy he just absolutely has to have in this draft. That player might be James Wiseman.

In order to get him, though, the Bulls would likely have to trade up to no. 1 or no. 2 overall. For a prospect like Wiseman, that could pay huge dividends. This is a great time to take a risk on a player who is as freakishly athletic as anyone in this draft — and probably the best overall athlete in the class.

Wiseman stands 7-foot-1 with a wingspan of 7-foot-6, but he’s not your typical big man. A couple of years ago, Bulls fans were salivating over the thought of drafting a guy like Mo Bamba because of his defensive strengths and ability to lock down the paint. However, Bamba has proven he doesn’t fit as well in today’s NBA. You can’t be strictly a defensive center anymore. There are no more guys like Ben Wallace. The league has changed.

The promise of Wiseman comes not only with his ability to lock down the paint, but his finesse when handling the ball. He is able to shoot mid-range jumpers as good as many 7-footers we’ve seen come through the league recently. He’s the full package on both ends of the floor.

If he added a little muscle, Wiseman could turn into one of the better big men in basketball in a few years. In a class that doesn’t offer any superstar, Wiseman is as close as you can get to one.
