Spencer Ware

Ware has not been a true number one option since he played in 14 games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. But in his relatively small sample size, he’s averaging about 4.6 yards per carry. In that season, he also added 447 receiving yards.

Ware, who played in three games during the 2019 season for the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, would be coming off two injuries he suffered during 2019. Originally on the Colts to begin the 2019 season, he underwent ankle surgery and was placed on the physically unable to perform list.

The Colts released him on September 20th, and thus he resigned with the Chiefs in December of 2019. Unfortunately, he injured his shoulder and wasn’t resigned.

Ware remains a free agent, and could potentially fill in for Montgomery if the injury is long-term. But if Ware were to be signed, it’s much likelier that he would be splitting carries with Tarik Cohen, Cordarrelle Patterson, or rookie Artavis Pierce.

If so, he would provide some solid veteran presence in the backfield, with some decent two-way potential. And like they did with Montgomery, they would be looking for a guy to be able to catch passes out of the backfield.
