Trade No. 1

It has long been a rumor tossed around the Bulls. Would they actually consider trading Zach LaVine? Let’s look at the facts, first.

LaVine, still just 25 years old, has taken over as the Bulls’ no. 1 guy on offense over the past couple of years. Despite reports that the team had wanted the offense to run through Lauri Markkanen, it’s been LaVine — and that’s been a positive.

On a phenomenal, tradable contract too, LaVine would heed some strong return if traded. He still has two years left on a 4-year, $78 million deal the Bulls originally gave him.

As the Nets’ third option, LaVine would flourish. He, Irving and Durant would be borderline unstoppable offensively. The only question mark would be if LaVine could finally take a step forward defensively.

Speaking of defense, the Bulls would add tough-nosed forward Taurean Prince in this deal, along with the Nets’ first-round pick in this year’s draft (19th overall). With LaVine, the Bulls would send a future second rounder to Brooklyn.

For the Bulls, this gives them a potential piece to keep around for a while in Prince. The future of Markkanen is in question (a free agent in 2021) and forward Otto Porter will be gone after this year as well, via free agency.
