After going undrafted in 1996, Griffin played in Italy and the CBA until he got his shot with the Boston Celtics in 1999. Griffin actually spent two separate stints with the Bulls as a player, too (2004-2005 and 2006-2008).
For his career, Griffin was mostly a reserve; a role player, if you will. In fact, out of his 477 career professional games, he was only a starter for 179 of them. Arguably his best season as a player came back in 2001-2002 with the Dallas Mavericks when he averaged 7.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals while playing just under 24 minutes per game.
Funny enough, Griffin’s coaching career has made a stop in Chicago as well. From 2010-2015, he was an assistant for the Bulls.
Since 2018, though, Griffin has been the main assistant for Toronto and, of course, was part of the 2019 championship team.
Recently, Griffin’s name has appeared in headlines in regards to his ex-wife’s abuse allegations, which he has denied. Depending on what happens with this situation, the Bulls may take their time with Griffin in terms of their process.
