One of the most intriguing names to watch in this coaching search is current Denver Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr. For the last few seasons, he has been the Nuggets’ number one assistant next to head coach Michael Malone.

Unseld Jr. and Malone have turned the Nuggets into one of the top teams out West in just a handful of years. The connection to Chicago is obvious — Karnisovas came from Denver. Unseld Jr. is also credited with assisting in the development of one Nikola Jokic, which doesn’t hurt the résumé.

As the son of an NBA legend, Wes Unseld Sr., Unseld Jr. has a long legacy attached to his name. Being the son of a Hall of Fame player carries a lot of weight, but Unseld Jr. actually never intended to be involved in the game, oddly enough.

He agreed to work for his father for a year in Washington, and as he put it, Unseld Jr. never left the game after that. Not only has he become a strong assistant in the NBA, but Unseld comes from a background of integrity and generosity. He’s a man of character.

His father played and worked in the Washington organization for four decades. Unseld Sr. and his family helped establish and fund a school in Baltimore, where his wife and daughter still work today.

Unseld has been around the game a long time and knows how to build from the ground up, which is where the Bulls have been stuck for a while now. He’s as solid a candidate there is.
