4) Conclusion

With a defense that’s returning seven of 11 starters, continuity will certainly play a much bigger role than people expect. As is expected, the face of the defense will continue to be Khalil Mack, however for the Bears defense to lead the NFL in categories such as forced fumbles, sacks, and takeaways, contributions will need to be made by the entire unit.

The loss of defensive tackle Eddie Goldman hurts the Bears, however, that also is an opportunity for someone to step up and make plays. The biggest issue with losing Goldman is the fact that he also will take on double teams which in turn creates opportunities for the rest of the front seven.

When it comes to predicting where the defense will finish as a unit overall, top three expectations are not unreasonable. For a unit that allowed just over 18 points per game in 2019 is quite impressive, considering three starters dealt with season-ending injuries.
