Chicago Bears: Three areas the defense will improve in 2020

3) Forced fumbles
Despite just 12 forced fumbles in 2019, Chicago’s defense still managed to produce in this area when it mattered most. What was most encouraging to see was depth pieces like Nick Kwiatkoski getting involved as well.
Heading into 2020, with many big names back in the fold, specifically Akiem Hicks, the Bears have an opportunity to produce more in this area. And it’s expected that they do. Besides Hicks being back, the pass rushing duo of Robert Quinn and Khalil Mack could force at least 10 fumbles alone.
One of the main strengths of the defensive line is depth with guys like Brent Urban, Roy Robertson-Harris, and Bilal Nichols. For a trio that was already solid in 2019, younger players like Nichols and Robertson-Harris will continue to grow, which should only factor into seeing more fumbles forced by the Bears defense.
Between Quinn and Mack, Hicks, the depth on the defensive line, and then the linebacker duo of Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan, Chicago has the tools to once again be one of the leaders in this category.
