Defense

If you had to pick a part of the Vegas Golden Knights team to consider a weakness, you would say that it is their defense but that is only because their forwards and goaltenders are so good. This is a very good group of defenseman that is perfectly capable of protecting the house enough to win the Stanley Cup. They don’t have a superstar number one defenseman like most Cup contenders but they have six guys who would make great number twos or threes and that is almost better.

On the top pair, you can expect guys like Brayden McNabb and Nate Schmidt to get the job done. Their second pair of Alec Martinez and Shea Theodore could also be the number one pair on any given night as you can make an argument for Theodore as the best defenseman on the team. Their bottom pair looks like it is going to be Nick Holden and Zach Whitecloud although guys like Jon Merrill and Deryk Engelland could step in at any time.

It was a wise decision for this team to bring in Alec Martinez at the trade deadline. He has played great for them and secured that they have plenty of depth going into the playoffs. He, luckily for Vegas, has also had some big success against the Chicago Blackhawks. He is responsible for eliminating the Blackhawks in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs when he scored the overtime series-winning goal in game seven. That led to him winning his second Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings. Bringing that guy in secures them having a lot of great options back on the blue line.
