Trade Three

If the Cubs were going to trade away Quintana and let Mills and Chatwood stay in the rotation, they might want to add a guy who can be a reliever or a starter in case of injury or bad performance. Gio Gonzalez is a guy who can do both if his team really needs it. Trading Quintana for Gonzalez might be something that both teams could need to move forward in trying to win this season.

Quintana is the slightly better pitcher but he brings less playoff experience and he might be less willing to pitch in both a starting or reliever roll. Gonzalez has already shown in his time with the White Sox this year that he is willing to do both, depending on what his team needs. If the Cubs really wanted to move on from Quintana at some point, adding someone like Gonzalez might be the right path just so they can move on from their original trade that looks so bad.

There is no guarantee that he is traded at all but it is certainly possible and the fact that some reliable sources are putting it out there, it seems like it really could happen. The fact that there is a team on the other side of town that fits the description of the trade rumor makes it seem even more possible, especially since he has been on that side before. Either way, the situation as a whole is going to be very interesting to follow.
