Chicago Cubs: 3 trades to help bolster bullpen
By Ryan Heckman
3. Wandy Peralta, San Francisco Giants
Through the first quarter of the season, the San Francisco Giants are 7-10 and look like a team who may sell at the deadline. One of their relievers, Wandy Peralta, might be a cheap option for the Cubs to consider if he is available.
Peralta has had an interesting start to the season. He began with a stellar first four games, allowing just one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Over that time span, he faced 18 batters, striking out five of them and walking two. Half of those batters ended grounding out, as well.
Now, take his ERA of 0.00 over those first four games and contrast it by his next three appearances, and you have a tale of two months so far. He was great in July. In August, though, Peralta has struggled a bit.
He’s pitched just two innings in three appearances, giving up seven hits and four earned runs — two home runs included. Out of those 14 total batters faced, he only struck out three, also.
His ERA in the month of August? A whopping 18.00. However, he would be a cheap enough buy for the Cubs that he’d be worth a shot. If Chicago could get him for next to nothing, Peralta could be an option to push the rest of the pen a little bit.
