Vegas Golden Knights. Jon Merrill. 15. player. 942. . D

The Blackhawks are hoping to have Duncan Keith back for a few more years and see him play well. The future of Brent Seabrook is in question but there are some other really good young players ready to take the next step. Well, adding a guy like Jonathon Merrill might be really good for their defensive depth in 2020-21 and potentially beyond. He is an unrestricted free agent when this season is over so he will be free to go wherever he wants.

Merrill was taken in the expansion draft from the New Jersey Devils. Things didn’t go that well for him there but once he got to Vegas things got much better for him. He is not an offensive defenseman by any means as his career-high in points is 15 which he had in 2018-19. In his career, he has 12 goals and 49 assists for 61 points in 356 games.

He has been a plus-player every year he has played with the Golden Knights but is still negative for his career. That shows how low he was with New Jersey before coming to Vegas where he figured it out. In 2019-20, he had a 52.8 CorsiFor which shows that despite being a defensive defenseman, his team creates more shots-for at even strength. This might be a sneaky good addition for Chicago if they were able to pull it off.
