NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre gives the edge to Nick Foles over Mitchell Trubkisky in the Bears quarterback competition.

Brett Favre loved played against the Chicago Bears, especially when he wore a Green Bay Packers jersey. Favre beat the Bears 22 times in his stellar career as a Packer against only 10 losses.  He had separate Bears winning streaks of 10 and 7 games while throwing 53 touchdown passes as Packer against Chicago.

“I had a blast playing in that rivalry,” Favre told Da Windy City podcast. “I would say we had the upper hand after my first year. I think my first year we lost to them both times and then after that, really until present day, Packers have had the advantage.”

Favre actually has that wrong. 1992 was his first year starting in Green Bay and that year the teams split. Then-from October of 1994 to November 1999- Favre did not lose to Chicago.

“(Mike) Holmgren used to always have this one saying, the worm will turn and I didn’t know what the hell he was talking about at first,” Favre said. “But in other words, the Bears will get back on top. It’s a cycle, that I would have to say for a Bears fan it has taken a long time to turn.”

Indeed it has. The lone exception was 2004-2007 when the Bears won six of eight during the Brian Urlacher era that saw the Bears go to their last Super Bowl. Even though the Bears have come up on the losing end versus Favre and Aaron Rodgers for nearly three decades, many Bears fans appreciate the play of both quarterbacks.

“I think sometimes true fans have a true appreciation even if it’s on the other side for the other team or for various players,” Favre said.” Chicago, there is no question, thats a sports town if there ever was one so they know their sports.”

For the Bears to get past Green Bay this season they will need better play from their quarterback. Favre thinks a change is in order.

“I just base it off of how they performed when they have been given the opportunity and Nick Foles has performed better,” Favre said. “If you just base it off of how they performed in real games situations, obviously Nick Foles won a Super Bowl and played lights out. From that standpoint, I don’t know what either looks like right now just based off of that, Nick Foles is the better player.”
