Chicago Bears: 3 recent Trubisky quotes cause serious concern
By Ryan Heckman
3. Blind love or wishful thinking?
Finally, we come to a thought that was once again given on Friday.
"“I’m just trying to prove everybody wrong and prove my teammates right.”"
Trubisky knows that most of the media, and even a large portion of the fan base, is already out on him. But, he spoke as though his teammates still have the utmost faith in his ability as a starter.
Now, having faith in your teammates is a must. You have to support your brother. However, I wonder just how many of those teammates actually believe Trubisky can get it done.
Head coach Matt Nagy was brutally honest this week when he told the media he would tell either quarterback when they are playing like crap during training camp. He talked about how he wasn’t afraid to say something like that.
Are Trubisky’s teammates going to call him out, too? Are they blindly in love with the guy? Do they simply boast wishful thinking regarding Trubisky’s future?
We know at least one teammate who isn’t afraid to call it like he sees it.
This summer, former teammate Kyle Long was realistic about the Bears’ quarterback competition. Obviously, Trubisky was his quarterback for a little while in Chicago, following his days with Jay Cutler. As a guy protecting Trubisky, he has to have some faith in the kid, no matter what.
But, as Long stated, he believed Foles is in Chicago for a reason.
“I think Nick Foles was brought in to be the starting quarterback.”
Long talked about how he believed in Trubisky, but belief is only half the story. His logical thinking, in the end, says Foles will be the starter.
Based off Trubisky’s words, I would say he needs a little more tough love from his coaches and teammates. Like I stated earlier, this is year number four. He is out of excuses. His teammates should know better, just as his coaches do.
