Chicago Bears: 3 recent Trubisky quotes cause serious concern
By Ryan Heckman
1. A first time for everything
The first bite of information we should be concerned about came this week, actually, when Trubisky met with the media.
"“It’s really the first time I have adjusted my mechanics.”"
As a guy who came to the Bears with just one year of starting experience, this is somewhat acceptable, to an extent. On one hand, if John Fox and his coaching staff didn’t notice anything worthy of change in Trubisky’s mechanics, obviously no changes would be made.
That, in and of itself, is simply disgusting. That is unacceptable.
However, I have a hard time believing Trubisky didn’t receive a good amount of feedback, criticism and advice in his pre-draft process in regards to his mechanics. I have a hard time believing he wasn’t told anything about his poor footwork and lack of hip mobility while in the pocket — and that goes even beyond the Combine.
You aren’t an NFL coach for no reason, even if your name is Dowell Loggains. If Trubisky indeed has never been told to adjust — or even had someone hint at adjusting — his mechanics, then every coach over his entire football career has failed him.
And I have a hard time believing that.
Let’s not forget a quarterback’s ability to watch film and self critique. Is Trubisky not doing that whatsoever? He hasn’t realized how poor his footwork is, both in and out of the pocket?
Speaking of watching film, let’s move on.
