Tier Two

Ian Happ would be a tier two type of trade for the Cubs. He isn’t a star player by any means but he is certainly a player that can contribute to a good team. He was a first-round pick so you know the Cubs have a lot of faith in him but moving him for a good relief pitcher would be a great idea. He can be replaced in the field with relative ease. It might be a downgrade in the lineup or in the field but they have plenty around him to make up for it.

If a team wanted to add a budding player but give up a “tier-two” reliever, the Cubs might actually consider it. Anyone they can get for Happ would probably come in and be the best relief pitcher on the team. That would go a long way in helping this team win more baseball games. More importantly, it would help them close out games that they have big leads.

Happ didn’t come up to the Cubs a whole lot last year and that might have been a mistake. Well, if they wanted to use him to pursue some bullpen help, there probably aren’t going to be too many rational people that are mad about it.
