3B/OF. Chicago Cubs. Kris Bryant. 17. player. 9.

Tier One

The Chicago Cubs and Kris Bryant almost seem certain to part ways. They took his service time grievance to an arbitrator earlier in the year and he lost it. The Cubs now have control of him through next season and they still haven’t worked out a contract yet. This is a guy who is a World Series Champion and National League MVP.

Bryant is a great player and an even better person. He has struggled to start the season but you have to figure that it won’t last. He has been a key part of the best years in the history of the team but his time seems to be coming to an end. There is a lot of rumors about his contract and dialogue, or lack thereof, for a while now. If they don’t get something done, you have to figure that they would trade him before they let him walk for nothing.

If a team had a brilliant closer but they weren’t going anywhere this season or next, they might be willing to move him if they can add a Kris Bryant. That team would definitely have to kick in more but if Bryant can help the Cubs get a really good closer or multi-inning reliever, it might be something worth considering.
