Chicago Bulls: 3 reasons Jim Boylen could stick around
By Ryan Heckman
3. Don’t count out the tank
It sounds funny, but let’s go back in time just a little bit. Earlier this year, Boylen was asked specifically about his win-loss record. Let’s revisit his answer to this particular question.
"“I’m not worried about my personal record or my win-loss record. I’ve been asked to establish a style of play, to have a disciplined approach and develop a young group of guys. And in my opinion, we are doing that.” (h/t Chicago Tribune)"
Remember, Boylen apparently never cared about his team winning basketball games. He very well could be a stop-gap coach for the Bulls, who will make that impactful change next year.
Do not underestimate the fact that Chicago has picked no. 7 overall in three straight drafts (and hopefully not four — we’ll find out later this year). This is a much worse team than the number seven overall lottery pick would tell you.
If Boylen hangs around for one more year, this team is destined for another lottery pick, right? Surely, they wouldn’t improve under Boylen, thus giving Karnisovas more to think about in terms of his future?
Right?
One more year under Boylen could mean one more chance at a top-3 pick for the Bulls, and that pick could end up swinging the tides in free agency, too. If a top-tier free agent had the opportunity to join LaVine, White and a top-3 pick in Chicago, you’d have to believe it just might happen — and that is well-worth one more season enduring the many facial expressions of our friend, JimBo.
