1. The second bubble situation

While most fans have believed the Bulls were simply prolonging the inevitable, maybe Karnisovas knew something we didn’t. The team hired Karnisovas back in mid-April, and it is now July. So, why wait to pull the plug?

As of a few weeks ago, the league announced they were working towards a second NBA bubble. The first one, of course, houses 22 teams in Orlando, where the playoff picture will be figured out through an additional eight regular season games before postseason play kicks off.

A second bubble has been in the works and would be home to the remaining eight teams who didn’t make the cut. These teams would play in another city (maybe even Chicago) and engage in organized scrimmages. The point, mostly, is so that these players got a chance to play again.

But, for Boylen, this is all starting to make some sense. If Karnisovas knew the Bulls would either resume regular season play at some point, or started to get the hunch there would be another bubble after the first one was announced, maybe that’s why he’s keeping Boylen around — for now.

Getting a chance to see Boylen coach, in some fashion, could be in Karnisovas’ best interest. I highly doubt it will change the fact that Boylen is going to be fired at some time in the near future. But, keeping him around amidst the craziness of this season makes a little sense.
