Chicago Blackhawks: St. Louis Blues could provide a big boost
The Chicago Blackhawks could get a big boost from playing the St. Louis Blues.
The Chicago Blackhawks are in the play-in round. They are going to begin their series against the Edmonton Oilers on August 1st. Before that, they are going to have an exhibition game against the defending Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues. The game will be played on Wednesday, July 29th at 5:30 pm. It is a chance for the Blackhawks to feel very good about themselves going into the Edmonton five-game series.
The Hawks and Blues form one of the best rivalries in the National Hockey League. They have had some sweet battles over the years as they were both very good hockey teams for the better part of the last decade. In fact, the Hawks and Blues have combined for four of the last ten Stanley Cup titles. Even in the regular season, each team brings their best in this matchup. That should be no different for this exhibition game.
After this game, the Blues are going to play in a round-robin tournament with the Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, and Colorado Avalanche to determine the seeds against the play-in round winners. That is going to be tough but they have as good of a roster as any team in the NHL. There is no doubt that they are good enough to win the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row.
Because the Blues are so good, beating them would be a nice boost going into the games that matter. This game won’t affect their advancement or standings or anything like that but it could be a big morale boost. It should be a nice way for the guys to fine-tune their game before they start to count.
The players on both sides (past and present) have made it clear that this rivalry is a fun one to be a part of. Even though neither team absolutely needs to win it, they should be getting a nice boost if they were to win. Every other team in the tournament is also playing a close geographical rival so these games should be really fun to watch in general.
