Goalies

Goaltending is the most important position in hockey. He is the last line of defense that can help you win games and he can certainly help you lose them. The Blackhawks have had some good goaltending for a long time now so it is the hope that they are able to get what they need going into this strange playoff season.

  • Corey Crawford
  • Collin Delia
  • Kevin Lankinen
  • Malcolm Subban
  • Matt Tomkins

Corey Crawford is the one who everyone would expect to start in net for Chicago. He won the Stanley Cup twice as a starting goalie which is incredible for a guy in today’s NHL. He could be a guy who is going to the Hall of Fame but regardless if he does or doesn’t, he is one of the all-time greatest Blackhawks. An issue for Crawford is that he was deemed “not fit to play” by Jeremy Colliton on Monday. We have to wait and see exactly what that means and how long he will be out.

Malcolm Subban came back to the Blackhawks in the trade that sent Robin Lehner to the Vegas Golden Knights. He is more than likely going to be the dressed backup with Collin Delia there as the third goalie. This is a group that probably needs Crawford playing at his best but you never know how it shakes out.

light. Hot. Schedule for the Blackhawks play-in series vs Edmonton

All in all, this isn’t a Stanley Cup roster but it is one that is good enough that might be able to cause a scare for a team or two. It is fun to finally see some actual hockey being played which gives us something to talk about. Don’t forget, practices are still going to continue rolling on and games start on August 1st.
