Mistake No. 2

Speaking of teams with recent success who could have won a Super Bowl had they drafted Mahomes instead — enter, the Tennessee Titans. Last season, Ryan Tannehill rescued the Titans from what looked to be a wasted season. Instead, they took on Mahomes’ Chiefs in the AFC Title Game.

Who did they draft in that 2017 first round, at number five overall?

Answer: Corey Davis, wide receiver out of Western Michigan.

The 6-foot-3 wide receiver was supposed to be the cream of the crop in this class, but instead, the first round produced a couple of duds — and Davis was one of them.

It is pretty ironic that, like Thomas’ 6.0 sacks in his first three seasons, Davis has just six touchdown receptions in the same time frame.

Davis has made the Titans completely forget about the fact he was supposed to be their true no. 1 wide receiver, so much so, that the team drafted A.J. Brown in last year’s first round. Already, Brown has surpassed Davis’ touchdown output in just his rookie season, catching eight touchdown passes.

Unlike either Thomas or Davis, at least Trubisky has seen a Pro Bowl appearance. Now, whether or not that was truly deserved (even as an alternate) is another debate. But, Davis is yet another major mistake made instead of selecting Mahomes — worse than the Bears taking Trubisky.
