2. Running Back Devonta Freeman

I have been banging this drum for months now. Devonta Freeman still doesn’t have a job and, like Cam Newton, may end up making a few teams look foolish for waiting so long.

More from Da Windy City

Freeman is still only 28 years old. Although that may be considered a bit on the elderly side for a running back, he still has some juice left and could offer the Bears a strong no. 2 option in the back field.

Believe it or not, Freeman finished the 2019 season with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns. The two-time Pro Bowl participant has rushed for 1,000 yards twice in his career while also finishing with over 400 receiving yards three times — last year included.

Over the past six seasons, Freeman has been one of the better dual-threat running backs in football, although missing 14 games in 2018 seemed to derail his career a bit, thus Atlanta chose to move on. Still, though he isn’t talked about as much, a player like Freeman could certainly help a playoff team, and that’s what the Bears hope to be in 2020.

Having a capable second running back behind David Montgomery is crucial, and Tarik Cohen hasn’t been exactly that as of late. Freeman is a must-sign, allowing the team to then make a decision on Ryan Nall or Artavis Pierce as their fourth back in camp.
