Chicago Bears: 3 players team must sign with new roster limit
By Ryan Heckman
With a new roster limit likely going into place, the Chicago Bears have to act quickly.
There have been many changes for the Chicago Bears, and all of the NFL, over the past few months. Things are different, and probably will be for a very long time, now. But, at the moment, football season is scheduled to be played.
For the last four months, fans have had plenty to keep them occupied, in terms of NFL happenings. When the coronavirus pandemic hit the United States, the league decided to conduct their offseason right on schedule, as planned. Of course, in-person meetings weren’t exactly going to happen, but free agency and the NFL Draft went ahead as scheduled.
Now that the bulk of the offseason is over with, though, fans don’t have much to bank on. Training camp would have been the next big event, but obviously the league is conducting those behind closed doors to the public.
So, we await the regular season (and potentially a pair of preseason games beforehand). Before we get to the regular season, though, we have to keep taking all of these policy and rule changes in stride. The newest report suggests that teams could only bring 75 to 80 players to training camp, as opposed to the typical 90 to start out with.
If that’s the case, the Bears will have some decisions to make. Which players get cut without even having a chance to prove their worth? It’s going to be a tough pill to swallow for those guys, but for the Bears, the business gets even more difficult. That’s what this rule change means.
If Chicago wanted to simply eliminate some difficult decisions, they could opt to sign a couple of free agents still available who would be plug-and-play material. There are three, in particular, which would significantly help the coaching staff moving forward.
