Trade No. 2

A second possible deal would see the Bears trading a future fourth-round pick along with veteran tight end J.P. Holtz. That way, Cleveland would have a capable third string tight end to take the place of Njoku.

Holtz is actually a player I’m somewhat excited about in Chicago, and would be a little sad to see him go. He pegs more as a combo position player, being able to line up as a fullback as well as tight end.

But, Njoku immediately becomes the best tight end on the Bears’ roster and it isn’t even a contest. The fact that Chicago would be able to land a 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end who possesses a 40-inch vertical leap and 4.64 speed seems ludicrous. But, here we are. It’s certainly possible.

Over his first three seasons, Njoku has been unable to fully break out due to a couple of different factors. First, he’s been victim of a poor offensive scheme all around. In fact, had the Browns not signed Hooper, he’d be in line for a big year under Kevin Stefanski.

Last season, Njoku missed most of the year with a broken wrist.

In 36 career games, Njoku has been targeted 158 times, catching 93 of them for 1,066 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s going to be 24 years old when the season starts and could offer either Trubisky or Foles an instant red zone threat.

Going and getting Njoku might be the final piece of the Bears’ offensive puzzle this offseason, and I think he dramatically changes the offense from the first snap.
