Is Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane the greatest United States-born player of all time yet?
When you ask a hockey fan who the greatest player of all time is, there is a 99 percent chance they will say it was either Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr, or Gordie Howe. A case might be able to be made for Sidney Crosby by the time he is all said and done but you never know. All five of those guys are Canadien so the hot debate is who is the greatest American player of all time? Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane certainly has a case for himself.
There have been some great ones in the past like Mike Modano, Jeremy Roenick, and Chris Chelios. There are some more great ones on the way in guys like Auston Matthews, Charlie McAvoy, Jack Hughes, and Jack Eichel. Well, the greatest of all time might have played in the middle of those two eras. He might not be quite on that level yet but he is right there. Kane has 389 goals and 633 assists for 1022 points in 973 games.
Kane has had some incredible production and at 31 years old, he has a lot of gas left in the tank. He is going to have a chance at 1500 or more points but he needs to be consistent and stay healthy. If he does all of those things, he will go down as the greatest American player ever. On this Fourth of July, people should remember and appreciate how good Kane has been for this country,.
The regular season points are awesome but Kane has some hardware to go with it. Everyone knows that he has won the Stanley Cup three times. In the 2013 edition of that cup, Kane won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs. Kane has also won the Hart Trophy as the league MVP and the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s leading scorer. He even won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie in 2008.

This has all been so fun to watch as fans of USA Hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks. It has been a treat to watch Patrick Kane and he isn’t even close to being done. By the time his career is over, there will be no debate that he is the greatest American to ever play.
