Chicago Cubs: Jose Quintana trade continues to get worse
The Chicago Cubs made a brutal trade in 2017 and it continues to get worse.
The Chicago Cubs are still feeling the pain of the Jose Quintana trade after three seasons. Fans like to brush it off like it is no big deal but they are wrong. This was a franchise-altering mistake that the Cubs made here by sending Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease to the Chicago White Sox for Quintana. It is a bad look for Theo Epstein and his crew that a bum trade like that happened, especially to the cross-town rivals.
It looks even worse after yesterday’s news that Jose Quintana has a very strange injury. He injured his thumb while washing dishes and is going to be out for a while. He needed to have surgery following the injury, Yes, you read that right. He injured his hand while washing dishes. It is the perfect little wrinkle to this awfully hilarious trade that the Cubs made.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are getting ready to take the league by storm with Cease and Jimenez in the middle of it. Especially Jimenez who is one of the best young power hitters in the world now. If Cease reaches his true ceiling, the White Sox will have won that trade even more than they already have. Quintana hasn’t even been that good which makes it look even worse for the Cubs.
Hindsight is 20/20 but they had to figure that the designated hitter was coming at some point to the National League. Kyle Schwarber is a perfectly crafted DH and it sounds like the Cubs are going to try him in that spot. Meanwhile, instead of Jimenez taking his spot there it looks like it is going to be Ian Happ. That is a tough look, especially because of the fact that Quintana is going to miss some time from an injury that he sustained while he was washing dishes.
This is a tough look for the organization even though it was a freak accident. If the season does in fact get underway and completed, the world is going to see why White Sox fans were so happy on the day that they found out that this trade was completed.
