1. Present-day confidence from staff

Dating back to the end-of-season press conference, both Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy had repeatedly stated their confidence in Mitchell Trubisky. Whenever they were asked about him, they would tell media that Trubisky is their starting quarterback for 2020, or something along those lines.

Then, March happened. The Bears abandoned that confidence in Trubisky when they traded a fourth-round pick for Foles. To most teams, a compensatory fourth rounder would be considered somewhat important, but not too costly.

For the Bears, dealing that fourth rounder was a huge loss. They were already without a first-round pick. They were also without a third-round pick. Sure, Chicago had two second rounders. But, up until the Bears were officially awarded that compensatory selection in the fourth round, they were banking on two second-round picks being impact players, and then take their shots in the later rounds.

A fourth-round pick could end up yielding a potential starter.

Maybe it did.

When the team went out of their way to sacrifice even more draft capital to bring in Foles, they immediately shifted their confidence from Trubisky. That move signaled the fact that the team was losing faith in Trubisky. There was no way they’d go into the 2020 season with their hopes riding on Trubisky alone.

In a “What have you done for me lately?” type of league, the latest moves by the Bears tell us that Foles has the front office’s confidence.
