Chicago Bears: 3 things Nick Foles has that Trubisky doesn’t
By Ryan Heckman
Inching closer to training camp, Chicago Bears fans want to know who will win the quarterback job.
It feels like an eternity ago that the Chicago Bears had clinched the NFC North and were on their way to a playoff berth which would hopefully end in a Super Bowl. After a dream 2018 season, Mitchell Trubisky had seemingly proven that he indeed was developing into a capable NFL starting quarterback.
Everything was coming together. Rookie head coach Matt Nagy had instilled a confidence and supreme positivity around the organization that fans hadn’t seen nor felt in years. Club Dub was a brand-new version of an NFL victory celebration and was a must-watch on social media following each win.
Trubisky had shown signs of life; signs of becoming, dare I say, a good (maybe great) quarterback in this league. He definitely led some to believe he was the future of the franchise — and I was buying in.
But, that hope within the organization came to a screeching halt in 2019 when the Bears came back down to earth. We know the story well. They finished 8-8 in a year that can hopefully be written off as a blemish in what should be a strong run for this team over a few years time.
The organization went out and secured veteran quarterback Nick Foles to come in and compete for the starting quarterback job — something plenty of fans wanted to see after last year. It’s going to be a true competition, and that’s all we could ask for.
Going into training camp and, ultimately the preseason, Foles already carries three things with him that Trubisky does not have. In the end, these three things could be the difference in the quarterback competition, should Trubisky be unable to handle the pressure.
