There are some similarities between the Chicago Bears kicking and quarterback competitions.

Much of last season’s training camp was spent worrying about the kicking competition the Chicago Bears needed to upgrade their team. Outside of that one challenge, the Bears seemed ready to succeed, however, things backfired badly when the team struggled anyway.

I hope the Bears learn from their mistakes this training camp and do not let this one competition control the entire camp. Instead of making the message about who is better Nick Foles or Mitch Trubisky, let’s make this camp about how the Bears are going to get back on track this season.

We have some great tight ends to watch like Jimmy Graham and Cole Kmet. We have to see how we are going to improve the offensive line this season, and we have to see if the Bears are going to try and utilize the run game, even more, this year.

I can not wait to watch the bears at training camp and follow all the action. It is going to be great to see football back sooner rather than later. This is a tryout year, and I do not think our starting quarterback is going to be decided over the course of just a few weeks. I would not mind seeing Foles and Trubisky split time during the year.

Last season Eddy Pineiro won the kicking competition during training camp and the preseason, and yet every time he took the field during the year fans held their breath and were ready to give him up in a heartbeat. If that is going to be the case with the quarterback competition this year, then do not read too much into this year’s training camp.

Kicking the year off against the Detroit Lions is going to give the Bears the boost they need to hopefully make a run at the playoffs. That is the end goal of this season. Who knows, maybe both QBs will be able to help get this team to the postseason. Either way, let’s remember it takes a full team to win, not just one quarterback or one kicker. So this camp needs to be about every position and how we are going to put the best team on the field every week!
