Who will line up in the slot for the Chicago Bears?

One battle that is not getting much attention but is definitely one to watch is at the slot cornerback position.

Buster Skrine, who enters his second year with the Bears, had a very solid first year and has the inside track to reclaim the starting role in 2020. However, Skrine will have just one year remaining on his deal after this season, and perhaps the Bears will give a long, hard look at his future replacements.

First, you have second-year man Duke Shelley out of Kansas State. The sixth-round pick in 2019 filled in well as a reserve and could be poised to take a giant leap forward to challenge Skrine for the starting role.

However, I would not count out 2020 fifth-round pick Kindle Vildor, who is incredibly athletic and can lay the wood on opposing players when needed. Perhaps he is a year away from truly challenging for that position, but I would not be shocked if he leapfrogged Shelley on the depth chart.

However, at the end of the day, Skrine, the incumbent, will hold on to the position, but not without both challengers breathing down his neck the entire season.
