Chicago Bears: 5 players who may not return in 2021
By Ryan Heckman
3. Running Back Tarik Cohen
If the league has taught us one thing about running backs over the last few seasons, it’s that over 90 percent of them are replaceable. Rarely do running backs get paid long-term anymore. Outside of a handful of the elite names, most backs don’t last all that long in one uniform.
Next offseason, Tarik Cohen will see his contract expire. He is a free agent come 2021, and I have a feeling there will be a team out there willing to overpay a little for his services.
Seeing Cohen leave would mean the Bears can finally go out and create a pairing of two all-around running backs, instead of a gadget guy like Cohen. While his special teams play can be exciting at times, Cohen did not provide much of a spark offensively in 2019.
There are few guys who have been able to do the things necessary to stay in the NFL for a while at Cohen’s size. Darren Sproles and Danny Woodhead come to mind right away, but most backup running backs are not as small and can run between the tackles a bit better than we’ve seen Cohen do recently.
