. C. Chicago Cubs. Willson Contreras. 40. player. 9

The Chicago Cubs, in all likelihood, don’t want to trade Willson Contreras. He is a phenomenal catcher that can play multiple positions in addition to catching and he is a very good hitter. Most teams in the league wish they had a guy like this but the Cubs might be forced to move on from him anyway. It is not going to be a nice sight to see if they do move on from him but it is certainly something that is possible.

Contreras has done a lot of good for the Cubs. He was with them in 2016 when they won the World Series and he has been a great regular season baseball player for them as well. He earned a 3.1 WAR in 2019 with his play behind the plate combined with 24 home runs and 64 RBIs. He slashed .272/.355/.533 which isn’t bad at all for a catcher.

A lot of teams would love to add him if the Cubs decide they don’t want to pay him. He would be an upgrade at that position for a lot of teams trying to compete in 2020 and beyond. A lot of teams might give the Cubs something of value in order to obtain a player like Contreras so maybe the Cubs would explore the option. Out of all of the players on this team, he is one of the top candidates to be moved if they don’t agree to an extension prior.
