Chicago Bulls: 4 impending free agents to watch when season resumes
By Ryan Heckman
1. Point Guard Fred VanVleet
There is no telling what will happen in the near future when it comes to the Bulls, especially looking at their point guard room.
Currently, Chicago is likely looking at their starting point guard being 2019-2020 rookie Coby White, whom they took with the seventh pick in last year’s draft. At shooting guard, obviously it’s Zach LaVine‘s job.
Behind those two, the Bulls have some decisions to make. Kris Dunn has a qualifying offer of over $7 million for this next season. Will they give it to him?
Then, they still have two more years of Tomas Satoransky, who they acquired in last year’s sign-and-trade with the Washington Wizards. Satoransky’s contract is tradable, so we’ll see what happens there.
Chicago also has Shaquille Harrison, who earned a spot on the roster last year. You could then count Denzel Valentine as a shooting guard or a small forward, who has a qualifying offer of about $4.7 million for this next season.
With all of that said, should they find themselves wanting to move in a different direction with anyone not named White, point guard Fred VanVleet would be one of the best possible signings they could get. A reigning NBA Champion and someone who can handle the big moment and big shots, VanVleet would come in and become an instant, impactful part of the rotation.
As someone who was used to being a backup, though, VanVleet might come more expensive than the Bulls could afford after he became a starter in all 48 games he played this season. The other factor in this equation is that VanVleet was banged up back in February, and hasn’t played since then.
