The Chicago Blackhawks might be a team from our city that deserves to be honored in the next big documentary. The 2010s dynasty deserves that big spotlight.

Chicago sports fans have had it a bit easier than most during the COVID-19 quarantine. There have been a couple of documentaries to help us get through as a nation and both of them had to do with a prominent Chicago athlete. “The Last Dance” was one of the Chicago Bulls dynasties in the 1990s and “Long Gone Summer” was on the 1998 home run chase between Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs and Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals. That makes us wonder, would the Chicago Blackhawks be next in line for a “30 for 30”?

As far as Chicago teams to be featured in a movie like that, it should absolutely be the Chicago Blackhawks dynasty of the 2010s. They were a pretty bad franchise for a long time before some very nice moves led to them becoming a powerhouse franchise in the NHL. They lost to the Detroit Red Wings in the 2009 Western Conference Finals and that showed that the team was good and knocking on the door.

One year later in 2010, they ended their 49 year Stanley Cup drought. It was a great moment when Patrick Kane scored a crazy goal in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers to win Chicago its first Cup in almost half a century. It was followed by two more Stanley Cups in both 2013 and 2015 to cap off a modern-day dynasty.

There are countless stories that they would be able to go over if they did a “30 for 30” documentary on the time period. They could go over the rise of the Blackhawks that began with drafting players like Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook, and Corey Crawford amongst others. There was the trade for Patrick Sharp and signing Marian Hossa that also really helped things go well for them and all of that could be covered in a movie.

The 2012-13 lockout was something that was seen as horrible for the game of hockey but the league and players came to an agreement for a 48 game season. The Hawks started that season 21-0-3 which sparked interested in the team once again. They went on to win the Cup after an incredible run through the playoffs.

Even the Marian Hossa story would be something special to tell. He was on the Pittsburgh Penguins when they lost to the Red Wings in the 2008 Stanley Cup Final and then signed with the Red Wings who would go on to lose to Pittsburgh in the 09 Final. Then in 2010 he finally won that trophy that he so longed to win.

Having these great Hawks teams showcased on the small screen would certainly be something special for the game.
