Chicago Bulls: Top 3 coaching candidates, per report
By Ryan Heckman
Candidate 2: Adrian Griffin
Former NBA player, current NBA Champion and assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors, Adrian Griffin, would be an excellent hire. The 9-year veteran came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 1996, so for starters, he knows what it’s like to put your head down, work your tail off and not only earn a job in this league, but earn respect.
Respect is exactly what Griffin has from around the NBA. Not too long ago, Griffin spent five seasons as an assistant coach for the Bulls, from 2010-2015.
From there, he spent time with the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder as an assistant as well, before joining the Raptors in 2018 and taking part in their 2019 championship run.
Griffin should be familiar to Bulls fans not only from a coaching standpoint, but from back in his playing days. Griffin spent two separate stints with the Bulls as a player — 2004-2005 and 2006-2008.
He is one of the more well-known assistant coaching names in line for a head coaching role, so seeing him hired in Chicago would not be a surprise. He is what Cowley calls more of a backup plan, or, option no. 2 for Karnisovas.
