Look, I loved this signing when it happened. Ted Ginn Jr. is a very low-risk, high reward signing for the Bears at this stage of the offseason. Chicago needed speed, and they got it with Ginn. However, those who see him lining up as the immediate starter opposite Allen Robinson have another thing coming.

That role belongs to Anthony Miller. So, how about the WR3 spot, then? Fair enough. I could see Ginn holding down that position on the depth chart, except for the fact that the Bears traded up to draft a guy exactly like Ginn’s skill set in the fifth round, Darnell Mooney out of Tulane.

I like the veteran starting right away, but the more the Bears work Mooney into the offense (and they should with that type of speed), the more they’ll like what they see. Ginn is, of course, older and looked at as primarily a one-trick pony. He’s fast.

So is Mooney, and the tape he puts out is fun to watch. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ginn’s straight-line speed role be taken over by Mooney before the year is over. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ginn was a training camp cut. The Bears have a lot of guys in that room, and not all of them can stick around.
