Chicago Bears: 7 players who must prove themselves in 2020
By Usayd Koshul
With the 2020 NFL season getting closer, which Chicago Bears players need to prove themselves in 2020?
Every year, for the Chicago Bears, it seems like there are players who are facing make-or-break seasons. And 2020 will be no different. On one hand, it’s fair to argue that if names like Mitchell Trubisky take a step in the right direction, the Bears will be one of the best teams in the NFL.
However, if those same names fail to develop, then it will be very clear that the Bears will likely be starting all over again in 2021, however, a new head coach and general manager will be leading the way.
The 2020 Bears are an intriguing case. No longer are names such as Anthony Miller, James Daniels, and Bilal Nichols waiting to develop. We are now waiting for them all to take the next step and become core pieces of the Bears.
For general manager Ryan Pace, this is likely his last chance to get things right. If the players that he’s invested into over the last few NFL Drafts finally take the next step, then he’ll have a job in 2021. However, if they fail, Pace will be gone and will forever be known as the guy who passed up on Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes for Trubisky.
It’s not just draft picks who will need to prove themselves in 2020. Veterans like Bobby Massie, who the Bears signed to a contract extension during the 2019 offseason will also need to prove that they belong, otherwise, the Bears could cut ties with Massie during the 2021 offseason for salary cap purposes.
As the Bears head into 2020, what are some players who will need to prove themselves to avoid being labeled busts or disappointments? Let’s break some names down and talk about why each of the following names need to breakout.
