The Chicago Bulls should be looking to hire Ime Udoka to be their next coach.

The Chicago Bulls are not coming back this season. The National Basketball Association announced on Thursday that their return to play format will not include the Bulls or any of the teams near them in the standings. In Orlando, Florida, the NBA approved a 22 team format to return to play by a 29-1 team vote. They plan on getting it underway on July 31st with training camps 2.0 beginning in early July.

The target is to get to training camp for the 2020-21 season underway on November 10th and start the season on December first. That is going to be a quick turnaround for the teams that make deeps runs in the playoffs but it is sure to be fun to watch.

The Bulls are done and will be a well-rested organization by the start of the season. They are also going to be a team that has a whole different makeup. They already moved on from Gar Forman and John Paxson in favor of Arturas Karnisovas. He came in and hired Marc Eversley to be the team’s general manager. That leaves the coach, Jim Boylen, in jeopardy.

Most people believe that Boylen will be fired anytime now that the season is officially over. It makes sense because, with no offense to him personally, he was a brutal coach in his time with the team. It is time to move on from him and let Arturas Karnisovas hire his own guy to be the head coach of this team. It has been a while since there has been a good one there and now could be a new opportunity.

They should hire Ime Udoka. Udoka is currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers and he has proven that he is ready to take the job of a current NBA coaching job. It is fair to believe that he has paid his dues and deserves his chance. He has been with Philly since 2019 and before that, he spent many years with the San Antonio Spurs.

You would think that lots of time down there learning from Gregg Popovich would serve him well. He was there for an NBA title against one of those elite Miami Heat teams that had LeBron James on it. Udoka also has experience with Eversley from their time together with the 76ers.  All signs point to him being the right guy. It would be a slam dunk hire for the Bulls if they added a guy like Ime Udoka.

The benefits they need from a new coach is getting the best out of their young players. It would also be ideal to have a good coach so they can try and be active in free agency over the next few years. If they can nail this hire, Udoka, or not, there could be some very exciting times ahead for the Bulls.
