The Chicago Blackhawks have high expectations in the short term and long term for Alex DeBrincat. He is one of the best young snipers in the NHL right now. He did, however, have a tough year based on the expectations that he has forced on himself. Let’s be clear, those expectations are a good thing because he was so good in his first two seasons. He wasn’t as good this year but that doesn’t mean he can’t redeem himself.

After having 28 goals in his rookie season and 41 in his second year, expectations were high that he could be one of the league’s best scorers again. Well, he had 18 goals in 70 games before the season ended which is a 21 goal pace over an 82 game schedule. It isn’t a bad total by any means because it is nice to be a 20 goal scorer in the NHL, we just expected more from him. We know that he can be much better and are confident that he will get back to that level.

DeBrincat has never played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He came to the Chicago Blackhawks after the glory days were over so we don’t know how he will be in situations as pressure-packed as playoff games. This is a chance for him to rise to the occasion and redeem himself for having half of the goals he had in 2018-19. If he can do that, the Hawks will have a much better chance.
