As mentioned when discussing Calvin de Haan, the defense is the key to defeating Edmonton. We know what we are going to see out of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Dominik Kubalik, Brandon Saad, Dylan Strome, and Alex DeBrincat. Those are some fine forwards who should be able to provide enough offense as long as they shut down the Edmonton stars.

Ian Mitchell hasn’t played a single game in the National Hockey League yet but he might be able to help Chicago out if they give him a chance. He was the captain of the University of Denver this past season in which he had 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points in 36 games. He was one of the best defensemen in the NCAA. He chose to leave college and sign his pro contract with the team that drafted him.

It would be wise for Chicago to allow him to play since they signed him. He is an upgrade over some of the other players that could be there in his place so it makes perfect sense. It has also worked for other teams in the past, most recently in Boston when the Bruins added Charlie McAvoy after his NCAA season came to an end. The Hawks might be hoping that Mitchell can do something similar for them. He doesn’t have to reach his prime in this matchup but a steady contributor would be awesome.

All three of these players joining the lineup upon the arrival of the playoffs would go a long way in helping this team win. They were are all almost certainly going to be given the opportunity to help their teams win and by being there, there is that much better of a chance.
